Thomas E. Baker

Canada Research Chair in Quantum Computing for Modelling of Molecules and Materials 鈥 Tier 2

Research summary

Quantum computers have the potential to revolutionize computation by taking just seconds to solve problems that normal computers cannot currently solve. They also offer a solution to our ever-growing need for powerful computation. Dr. Thomas Baker, Canada Research Chair in Quantum Computing for Modelling of Molecules and Materials, is developing the theoretical concepts needed for quantum computation. Baker is applying his expertise in numerical and theoretical methods to solve challenges for quantum computers at all levels of development. In particular, he and his research team are generating new quantum algorithms for quantum many-body physics, proposals for quantum error-correction, simulation techniques for qubit designs, and simulations of strongly correlated quantum systems. Ultimately, their findings will be used to help fully realize the potential of quantum computing.
