Kristian Dubrawski

Canada Research Chair in Water Sustainability for Indigenous and Rural Communities 鈥 Tier 2

Research summary

Access to clean, safe water remains a challenge for many rural and Indigenous communities. Dr. Kristian Dubrawski, Canada Research Chair in Water Sustainability for Indigenous and Rural Communities, is leading a research program at the intersection of engineering, nature-based solutions, and decolonized, community-engaged approaches to water innovation.

Using methods that integrate the built environment, ecosystems and community knowledge, he and his research team are developing strategies to reduce human and ecological health burdens. Working in partnership with First Nations, they are exploring solutions that range from hydrology and regenerative design to ecotechnology and governance of nature-based systems. This work will not only advance scientific understanding, but also support self-determined, sustainable water management in Canada and beyond.
