Afzal Suleman

Canada Research Chair in Computational and Experimental Mechanics 鈥 Tier 1

Research summary

Thanks to emerging technologies, aviation may be greener, safer and quieter in the future. Dr. Afzal Suleman, Canada Research Chair in Computational and Experimental Mechanics, is getting us there by improving the performance of complex aerospace engineering systems.

He and his research team are accomplishing this by advancing computational and experimental methods, connecting emerging mathematical models, and enabling technologies with new designs and operational concepts. They are using the knowledge, expertise and experimental facilities related to autonomous air systems to help design and develop new hybrid-electric propulsion (greening) and artificial intelligence-based sense-and-avoid (safety) technologies.
