Axelrad Avenir Award

One award of at least $6,000 is given to an undergraduate student in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the 探花系列 and one award of at least $6,000 is given to an academically outstanding undergraduate student in the Faculté des sciences sociales or the Faculté de droit at the Université Laval, both of whom have been accepted into an exchange program between the 探花系列 and the Université Laval.

Students must have an interest in working within the Canadian public service and a desire to contribute to the conversation about what constitutes a ‘successful Canada.’ Applicants must submit a statement (minimum of 500 words) outlining their career goals and their opinions on what a successful Canada looks like.  Preference is for students who have an interest in one day running for elected office in Canada (be it federal, provincial or municipal government). Approval of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The award is intended to assist each student with the cost of tuition, travel and living expenses.

Eligibility

In-Course scholarships, awards, medals and prizes are offered to undergraduate students who have completed a minimum of 12.0 units for credit, of which 10.5 units are graded using the standard nine point scale, in two of the three terms of study in the previous academic year (May to April). In-course scholarships, awards and prizes are awarded in the subsequent winter session (September to April).

How to apply

Application-required scholarships and awards require students to submit either a paper or online application as well as supporting documentation. In order to apply for scholarships offered online, students must complete the in-course scholarship application, available through Online tools. The online application for students currently attending is open February 15 - April 30. Any supporting documentation required for the online application must be submitted by email to incourse@uvic.ca by April 30. 

How to accept

To accept your scholarship offer:

  1. Have a 
  2. Go to  and sign into your UVic Online tools account using your NetLink ID
  3. Select "Student Services" on the top menu
  4. Select "Awards and financial aid" under "Finances"
  5. Select "View My Student Aid"
  6. Enter the Aid Year and Aid Period
  7. Select "Accept" on the scholarship(s) you have been offered
