New BCom curriculum

Year 1
This year is your opportunity to try a range of subjects and explore your interests. You will also take several foundational business courses. These will set you up for the immersive cohorted experience that starts in the spring term of year 2.
Course planning & requirements
The cohorted curriculum starts in the spring term of year 2. All students must complete a number of required courses before this begins. Our program planning worksheet and elective course guide will help you build your schedule.
All BCom students must complete the following requirements and meet the minimum GPA conditions outlined below in order to progress or transfer into the cohorted courses.

- you must complete the above 4 courses (6.0 units) prior to entry to BCom cohorted courses in the spring term of year 2
- STAT 252 has a prerequisite of MATH 151 that you will need to complete in fall of year 1
- please note that ATWP 250 (available in the fall of year 2) has a prerequisite and you are required to take an AWR satisfied course in year 1
- an additional 6.0-9.0 units (4-6 courses) of electives are also required to complete year 1
- an average of 4.5/9.0 (B/B-) GPA on required courses
Year 2
The fall term of year 2 is your opportunity to continue studying a range of subjects and exploring your interests. You will also finish taking some foundational business courses. These will set you up for the immersive cohort experience that starts in the spring term of year 2.

Cohort
In the spring term of year 2, you will take a set of business courses with your cohort.
Students complete a work experience term in the summer between year 2 and year 3.
Year 3
In the the fall term of year 3 of the BCom program, you will continue to take a set of business courses with your cohort.
In the spring term of year 3, you will be able to take upper level electives. Some specializations (that you take in year 4) may require prerequisites that you can complete in this spring term.
Students have the option to complete a work experience term in the summer between year 3 and year 4.
Year 4
In year 4 of the BCom program, you will be able to specialize in a specific area:
- Entrepreneurship and Innovation
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Technology Management
- Service Design, Marketing and Management
- Financial Management
- accounting
- finance
Specialization courses take place over one term in a cohorted experience. Please note that some specializations require prerequisites before entering the cohorted specialization term.
You can also spend 4 months on an international exchange. This lets you study at one of our many partner universities across the world. Instead of an exchange, some students choose to complete more electives at UVic.
You can also take part in the Applied Portfolio Management Program (after completing the Applied Investment Management Course in 3rd year).
International exchange
In year 4 of the BCom program, you can spend 4 months on an academic exchange studying at one of our many partner universities across the world.
You can take business courses unavailable anywhere else, immerse yourself in rich cultures and, along the way, discover new things about yourself and your place in the world.
With partnerships in 40 countries, the hardest part will be deciding where to go!
Note: Exchange is available to BCom students who have successfully completed the cohorted experience with a minimum GPA of 4.0.

Review of academic performance
Students who have a GPA below 3.0 (“C+”) in any academic session, or have failed a required work term, will be considered to have unsatisfactory standing in the Bachelor of Commerce program and may be required to withdraw for at least one calendar year. The Gustavson School of Business is under no obligation to re-admit students who have been required to withdraw, regardless of the cut-off GPA in the year in which they re-apply.
