Course planning

Students have the freedom to design their own program in Biology.  Upon completion of the five core Biology courses, you can choose 300- and 400-level courses based on your interests.  The following course guidance documents can be used guide you to key courses in four major Biology disciplines: Ecology and Evolution, Cell and Molecular Biology, Organismal Biology, and Physiology. In selecting courses, you may want to combine courses from two or more disciplines.

You may also select courses to complete one of three concentrations in Biology: Marine Biology, Forest Biology and Neurobiology. Concentrations are indicated on your transcript.

Notes:

  • BIOL 470 - Advanced Topics courses may be offered in any term and cover a variety of topics.
  • BIOL 490A-K - Directed Studies courses can be taken in any term and cover a variety of topics. Students must submit a pro forma to register for these courses. 
  • BIOL 499A and BIOL 499B are normally taken in the Fall and Spring terms, respectively. In special cases, students may register for these courses in other terms, but they must be taken consecutively.
