Equity Survey 2026
Chemistry is partnering with Equity and Human Rights (EQHR) to engage in an equity survey for our unit. The goal of the equity survey process is to provide a reflective review of the status of equity in a unit, and to develop recommendations for key areas of work to advance equity.
EQHR will produce a report with findings and recommendations to inform strategic planning, including activities for the designated unit and its equity committee over the subsequent several years.
About the Survey
We will be conducting the survey from March 12th, 2026 to April 2nd, 2026
-
Undergraduate and graduate students
-
Faculty and Staff
-
Sessional instructors
-
All students who have participated in chemistry courses
The survey consists of a series of scaled questions about your experiences with unit culture, equity, diversity, inclusivity and leadership. There are several open-ended questions. Finally, the survey includes some demographic questions to enable analysis of trends in responses.
All questions are optional and all responses are confidential.
Data use
Summary data from equity reviews will be used confidentially by EQHR to support our broader institutional understanding of key equity opportunities and needs of the campus; in these contexts, information identifying unit specifics will not be used.
Working in partnership with EQHR ensures that the survey is conducted by reviewers external to the unit with institutional context and awareness.
How will the survey findings be used?
Based on findings from our last Equity survey in 2020, the Department of Chemistry made many changes such as hiring a communications staff member to help communicate about EDI, and setting aside budget for equity initiatives. With this survey, we commit to sharing the findings and our official response with the Department, integrating the findings into our strategic plan, and taking other actions based on what the survey findings show.
