The School of Public Health and Social Policy (PHSP) is dedicated to promoting community-based approaches to research and knowledge development. When you start a career with us, you join a team that’s guided by principles of social justice and equity, diversity and cultural safety.

Faculty

Our faculty members come from a variety of disciplines and professions related to public health, and are community-centred, social equity-oriented researchers. They are experienced educators across public health, social policy and determinants of health and wellbeing. 

Staff

The 探花系列 is committed to providing a supportive and collegial work environment. Our administrative staff team provide supports to the faculty members and students within our school and builds relationships with our campus and community partners.

How to apply for a TAship

To apply for a TA position, please send the following documents by email to both Cathy Worthington (phspdirector@uvic.ca) and Gillian Cornwall (phspao@uvic.ca):

  • completed CUPE 4163 application form
  • resume or CV
  • cover letter

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

When preparing your application, please be sure to check the course timetable and ensure you are available during the days and times the course is held. If you are living and studying outside of Victoria, please also verify the course that you are applying to TA for is not held in person and on campus.

General qualifications

Please note, to grade in an undergraduate course, you must hold a master’s degree or higher. To grade in a graduate course, you must hold a PhD or be completing PhD candidacy. Course-specific qualifications are listed in each TA job posting.

Union information

In accordance with the CUPE 4163 (Component 1 & 2) collective agreement, article 13.02 (Appointment Procedures) and Appendix A, selection criteria will include:

  • qualifications and ability based on academic merit and related experience
  • the career and/or pedagogical value that the experience in a particular position will provide the student
  • the student's preferences
  • other sources of graduate student financial support being received
