Required documents
All documents must be uploaded at the time of application, including transcripts. We will grant a 2-week allowance for outstanding assessment reports, but applications will be considered incomplete if there are any outstanding documents after February 14.
Visit the Graduate Studies website for more information about submitting documents.
In addition to the documents outlined here, you have the option of submitting other documents that provide evidence of suitability (e.g., a writing sample).
Assessment reports & references
Either assessment reports or letters of reference are required from a minimum of 2 academic or professional referees who are familiar with your work. At least 1 academic reference should be provided. Professional references can include a supervisor of your professional or volunteer work and should not be a peer or colleague. Family members and close friends should not be used as referees.
When you submit your application, you will be asked to enter your referee's information, including their names and email addresses. This will automatically send an invitation directly to your referee, asking for their reference to be sent directly to Graduate Admissions. Your referees will have the option to complete an assessment report through the application portal, upload a pre-written letter of reference or provide both.
Please contact your referees before entering their information to confirm their willingness to provide you with an assessment. It is up to you to remind your referees to submit their references by the deadline—they will not receive a reminder from UVic.
